Carpal Tunnel Release (Open Procedure)
Learn about this procedure and watch a detailed video that shows you exactly what is involved.
The Carpal Tunnel is located on the underside of the wrist and is a tunnel like space that contains the Median Nerve and multiple tendons. The Median Nerve is responsible for controlling the feeling and movement of the first three fingers of the hand as well as the thumb. There are a number of conditions that can cause this space (tunnel) to swell and compress. The resulting pressure on the nerve can cause tingling, loss of feeling and pain in the hand, known as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. This condition can progress far enough to require a surgical procedure to reduce the pressure on the Median Nerve. This procedure opens the Carpal Tunnel space allowing the pressure to be reduced and the pain associated to be relieved.
